1972 Ford Courier Troubleshooting Taillights

If the taillights on your 1972 Ford Courier malfunction, you should repair them immediately, otherwise you are at risk of causing an accident. If only one of the bulbs in the Courier's taillight assembly is malfunctioning, then the issue is likely with the bulb in that light fixture. If all of the lights on the assembly are malfunctioning, there is likely something wrong with the connector, the taillight fuse or the wiring.

Tools Used: Clean gloves, Phillips screwdriver, Replacement bulb, Replacement fuse

Troubleshooting Taillights

Single Light Malfunctioning

Turn off the Courier's engine and put on clean gloves.

Open the tailgate and remove the three screws behind the taillight.

Pull the taillight out and disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the assembly from the vehicle.

Pull out the faulty bulb socket from the assembly and pull out the bulb. Install the replacement bulb and place the socket back into the assembly.

Place the assembly back into the vehicle and reconnect the electrical connector. Reinstall the screws and close the tailgate.

All Lights Malfunctioning

Turn off the Courier's engine and open the tailgate. Put on the gloves.

Remove the three screws behind the taillight. Pull the taillight out and pull on the electrical connector to test whether it is secured. If it comes out, securely plug it into the rear of the assembly.

Place the assembly back into the vehicle, reinstall the three screws and close the tailgate.

Open the hood and locate the fuse box. Remove the cover from the fuse box and locate the fuse labeled "Tail Lamp." If the fuse is blown, you will need to replace it. To find out whether a fuse is blown, inspect the metal inside the clear portion of the fuse. If the metal strip is in one piece, it is still functional. If the metal is broken, the fuse is broken.

Pull the fuse out and replace it with a new fuse. Place the cover back on the fuse box and close the hood.
