TIMING BELT

Removal

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Remove accessory drive belt cover. See Fig. 1 . Remove accessory drive belts.

3. Hold crankshaft pulley stationary using Crank Pulley Wrench (499977100 or 499977400), and remove crankshaft pulley center bolt. See Fig. 2 . Remove crankshaft pulley.

4. Remove timing belt covers. See Fig. 3 .

5. Using Crankshaft Socket (499987500), turn crankshaft to align marks on crankshaft sprocket, left side intake camshaft sprocket, left side exhaust camshaft sprocket, right side intake camshaft sprocket and right side exhaust camshaft sprocket with notches on belt cover and cylinder block. See Fig. 4 .

6. On manual transmission models, remove timing belt guides from around crankshaft and camshaft pulleys. See Fig. 5 .

7. On all models, if reusing old belt, check for timing and rotation marks on timing belt before removing. If marks are missing or worn off, use White paint to mark timing belt in relation to sprocket timing marks and direction of belt rotation. See Fig. 6 . Count number of teeth between crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprockets so that belt can be reinstalled in same position. See INSTALLATION MARK MEASUREMENT SPECIFICATIONS table.
