The 1967 Ford Mustang was equipped with a remote side mirror as standard equipment. To control the position of the mirror from the interior of the car, and to do so without having to roll the window down, a small positioning arm protrudes from the door panel. A cable connects the positioning arm to the mirror through the interior of the door. Fortunately, reproduction remote side mirrors for the 1967 Mustang are readily available and take only about 15 minutes to install.
Tools Used: Phillips-head screwdriver, Deep-set socket wrench, Adjustable wrench
Change Remote Side Mirror
Open the door and roll up the window.
Remove the single Phillips screw from the base of the window crank or from the base of the door handle with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
Pull the window crank and the door handle off the door handle to reveal each handle's nylon washer. Pull both washers off the door panel.
Remove the two bolts securing the underside of the arm rest to the door panel with a deep-set socket wrench, then pull the arm rest off the door.
Grasp the knurled edge of the bezel that surrounds the side mirror's remote lever with an adjustable wrench, then rotate the bezel in a clockwise direction until the bezel detaches from the door panel.
Insert the blade of a standard screwdriver between the door panel and the door, then gradually work the screwdriver around the edges of the door panel to detach the clips on the back of the panel from the door.
Reach into the cavity of the door and pull the remote mirror cable into the door cavity.
Remove the two Phillips screws located on top of the mirror's base with a Phillips-head screwdriver, then pull the mirror off the door. Note that the mirror's remote cable will slide out of the hole in the door.
Insert the tip of the replacement mirror's cable into its opening on the exterior of the door, then lower the mirror onto the door.
Install and tighten the mirror's two screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
Guide the tip of the mirror's remote cable through its opening on the door panel, then install and tighten the cable's bezel with an adjustable wrench to secure it to the door panel.
Align the clips on the back of the door panel with the holes on the frame of the door, then press the door panel against the door frame to secure the panel in place.
Position the arm rest against the door panel and install and tighten the arm rest's two retaining bolts with a deep-set socket wrench.
Slide the window regulator and door handle washers onto their respective gears, then fasten the regulator and door handles onto their gears with each handle's Phillip's screw.
