How to Check Ignition Coil on 1973 Honda CL350

The Honda CL350 Scrambler was introduced in 1968 and issued with a four-stroke, upright twin cylinder engine, which displaced 350 cubic centimeters. Although classified as an off-road Enduro model, the CL350 was equipped with lighting, allowing it to be registered for on-road use. Known as a popular, reliable small motorcycle with exceptional gas mileage, the CL350 was discontinued in 1974. Motorcycle ignition coils develop high voltage, which allows the spark to jump the spark plug gap. They may be tested using a simple procedure requiring no specialized electrical meters.

Tools Used: Socket wrench, Spark plug socket, Gloves

Check Ignition Coil

Remove the spark plug wire manually from the right side while sitting on the Honda CL350. Using the socket wrench and spark plug socket, remove the spark plug from the engine.

Put the spark plug wire back onto the spark plug and put on a pair of gloves.

Hold the end of the spark plug against a reliable ground, such as the cylinder housing. Attempt to start the engine while holding the plug against the cylinder. If you see a strong spark in the spark plug, the coil is functioning properly. If not, the ignition coil must be replaced.
