How to Install the Windshield on a 1968 Dodge Pickup

As with all vehicles, the windshield on a 1968 Dodge Pickup must be maintained to a high standard as it helps provide the driver with clear visibility when driving. If your windshield becomes scratched or damaged, you must replace or repair the windshield immediately due to the numerous hazards of leaving the damage un-repaired. The replacement process is fairly simple and can be completed by anyone with a moderate competence in mechanical work. You'll need assistance when removing the windshield from the vehicle and inserting the replacement.

Tools Used: Sharp blade, Screwdriver, Windshield sealant, Nylon cord, Assistant

Install Windshield

Unscrew the mounting screws on the rear view side mirrors. Slide the mirror and its casing off the holding bracket. This will allow you gain better access to the remove the windshield wipers by un-clipping the wipers from the bracket.

Use a sharp blade to remove the runner seal around the windshield. Cut away all of the seal and remove it from the vehicle. Carefully remove the windshield from the vehicle. This should be done from inside the car with someone helping to support the windshield from the outside.

Apply a thin layer of sealant around the edges of the new windshield. Place the new gasket on the shield so that the heavy part of the gasket is at the bottom and the slit is at the side of the windshield.

Tie a nylon cord around the windshield and lift it in to place on the vehicle. Have someone press the windshield down from outside the vehicle so what the sealant sets in place. Place the nylon cord across the edges of the windshield for added support.

Clean the dash of the Dodge to prevent any shard of glass or debris getting in to the vents. Clean the windshield on the inside and outside to ensure maximum visibility. Reattach the rear-view side mirrors.
