How to Rebuild Rear Wheel Cylinder on 1969 Chevrolet Camaro

The wheel cylinder is a key component in the drum brake system. This component pushes the brake shoes outward when the brake pedal is pushed. This happens when the brake fluid travels to the wheel cylinder pushing the two pistons out and in turn, pushing against the brake drum surface. The wheel cylinder contains 6 components: the wheel cylinder body, bleeder screw, spring assembly, seal, piston and the wheel cylinder boot. Repairing the wheel cylinder is a moderately challenging task but can be accomplished by the novice mechanic in under three hours with the correct tools.

Tools Used: Pliers, Brake cleaner, Wheel cylinder rebuild kit

Lubricate the inner wheel cylinder bore with fresh clean brake fluid. Install the new wheel cylinder piston seal by inserting it into the wheel cylinder bore with the flat side facing outward. Install the new wheel cylinder pistons with the flat side facing inward.
