How to Remove the Pedal on a 1977 Ford Truck

The pedals on a 1977 Ford truck control the braking and acceleration of the vehicle. One of those pedals is critical to the safe operation of the truck, and that is the brake pedal. Should this pedal fail, your truck could fail to stop, and that could lead to a serious accident. To fix the problem, you have to remove the pedal from the truck, which can be done in about 15 minutes with a few basic tools.

Tools Used: Needle-nose pliers, 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set

Remove the Pedal

Look underneath the dash and locate the brake light switch. Unplug the wiring to the brake light switch with your hands. Spread apart the white tabs on the switch with your hands. Unscrew the switch from the housing with your hands.

Remove the pushrod and the spacer from the pedal pin by sliding it out of the mount. Remove the spring retainer from the brake pedal with the needle-nose pliers.

Unbolt the brake pedal from the underside of the dashboard using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Take the pedal out of the truck.
