How to Replace EGR Valve on 1975 Plymouth Valiant

The EGR or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is designed to send the burnt gases back through the engine one more time to reburn them and reduce the emissions from the engine. The EGR valve on the 1975 Plymouth Valiant 318 V-8 engine is located on the top of the intake manifold, just behind the carburetor. You can replace the EGR valve in just a few minutes and save yourself time and money.

Tools Used: Open-end wrench, Socket wrench set

Replace EGR Valve

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the 1975 Plymouth Valiant battery post with an open-end wrench. Locate the EGR valve in the back of the engine on the driver's side of the engine compartment.

Remove the rubber vacuum hose from the metal port on the top of the EGR valve by hand. Unfasten the two bolts on the bottom of the EGR valve with a socket wrench.

Take the EGR valve off the motor and remove it from the engine compartment. Attach the new EGR valve to the motor with bolts.

Connect the rubber vacuum hose to the metal port at the top of the EGR valve. Fasten the negative battery cable to the 1975 Plymouth Valiant battery.

Tips & Warnings

To avoid burns, let the engine cool down before attempting to replace the EGR valve.
