The 1978 Ford F-250 uses a battery to supply the electrical power to the truck. The battery is connected to two cables. The first cable is connected to the starter and supplies the electrical power. The second cable is the ground and is attached to the frame of the truck. It's important that each cable is hooked up to the correct terminal to prevent any damage to the electrical system of the truck.
Tools Used: Battery, Socket wrench, Socket set
Hook Up Battery
Open the hood for access to the engine compartment. The battery will be mounted on the square metal battery holder in the front corner of the passenger's side of the engine compartment.
Place the battery sideways on the battery holder.
Trace the battery cable coming off the starter. This is the positive cable. Place the end of the cable over the terminal marked with a "+" symbol. Push the cable all the way down to the bottom of the terminal.
Secure the cable by tightening the nut on the clamp with a socket wrench. Make sure that the cable does not move.
Trace the second cable that is mounted to the body. This is the ground cable. Tighten the other end on the negative terminal, which is designated by a "-" symbol.
Start the truck to make sure the battery works. Close the hood.
