How to Install the Horn on a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice

Replacing the stock horn in your 1986 Chevrolet Caprice is an uncomplicated procedure that will make your vehicle safety to drive and allow it to pass inspection. You'd be best served to buy the part from a used parts dealer or a junkyard so that you can get it for a price that isn't inflated. Once purchased, you can install the car horn without much hassle.

Tools Used: New horn, Wrench

Install Horn

Lift the hood of your car and prop it into place so that you can operate underneath the hood.

Find the horn module underneath the battery near the front of your Caprice. It is a small. flat, circular type piece about the size of a school bell. You will notice that the module is screwed in with bolts and plugged into a wire.

Remove the wire from the horns socket. With your wrench, loosen and detach all of the bolts that are securing the horn in place. Be careful not to lose the bolts.

Remove the horn from the vehicle and dispose of it.

Place the newly purchased replacement horn in the same location as the stock horn.

Secure the replacement horn into place by tightening the bolts with your wrench. Plug the wire into the horn so that it can receive power from the vehicle. The installation is complete.

Close the hood of the car and clean your work space.
