How to Change the Brake Light on a 1987 Chevrolet Corvette

The 1987 Chevrolet Corvette is a fourth-generation Corvette model. This model comes equipped with a fuel-injected, 350-cubic-inch V8 engine. This model is available with either an automatic or manual transmission. Both the coupe and convertible models use the same rear body panels and taillight configuration. Four round taillights are set into the rear fascia. The inner set and outer lights are used as brake lights. These lights are also used for turn signals and running lights.

Tools Used: Battery terminal wrench, Screwdriver, Taillight bulb, part number 2057

Change the Brake Light

Remove the negative battery cable using the battery terminal wrench.

Reach between the muffler and rear bumper fascia to reach the outer bulb assemblies. To reach the inner bulb assemblies, remove the license plate and reach through the opening.

Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull it gently toward the front of the Corvette.

Turn the bulb counterclockwise until it stops. Then, pull the bulb from the bulb socket.

Insert the new bulb into the bulb socket and rotate clockwise. Replace the bulb socket assembly into the light and rotate clockwise to secure it.

Reattach the negative battery cable using the battery terminal wrench.

Tips & Warnings

To avoid injury, never change taillight bulbs until the mufflers are cool to the touch.
